Challenges for Wind Power Projects in Vietnam's Gia Lai Province
September 27, 2026

Nexif Ratch Energy's Van Canh Binh Dinh wind power project, with an investment of over VND5.7 trillion ($219.23 million) and a capacity of 143 MW, is encountering delays due to necessary investment procedures, grid connection agreements, and land-related issues. Originally slated to begin construction in November 2026, the project is now expected to start in Q1 2027 as the company works to finalize essential documentation.
VinEnergo's Hon Trau wind power plant - Phase 1, which has an investment of more than VND48.37 trillion ($1.86 billion) and a capacity of 750 MW, is also facing challenges. Although the company aims to commence construction in December 2026, it is currently dealing with complications related to coastal transport routes and fishing exclusion areas, causing potential delays in the project schedule.
The Gia Lai provincial People's Committee is actively seeking solutions to these issues, including coordinating with various ministries to expedite the necessary assessments and approvals. Both projects are critical to the region's renewable energy strategy, with VinEnergo also pursuing additional investments in renewable energy initiatives in the province.
