Gia Lai province approved, in a decision dated August 23, an expansion of the Sesan 4 hydropower plant, naming state utility EVN as project developer. The expansion adds 120 MW of capacity at an estimated cost of roughly VND 3 trillion (about USD 115 million), with construction spanning Ia O commune in Gia Lai and Ia Toi commune in Quang Ngai.

The expanded plant is expected to generate 58.95 million kWh annually, connecting to the existing Sesan 4 substation via a new single-circuit 220kV line. The project requires 40.15 hectares of land. EVN will fund just over VND 599 billion — 20% of total capital — with the remaining 80% sourced externally.

Under the approved timeline, feasibility approval and power-purchase-agreement negotiations run through April 2027, construction begins in May 2027, and commercial operation is targeted for June 2030. The operating license runs 50 years from approval.
