The Vietnamese government has directed relevant ministries and agencies to address obstacles affecting the Song Hau 2 and O Mon 2 and 3 power projects within September. This initiative is part of a broader effort to bolster energy security and expand power infrastructure in the Mekong Delta region, particularly in Can Tho city, to support Vietnam's economic growth objectives.

For the 2,000 MW Song Hau 2 thermal power project, the Ministry of Industry and Trade (MoIT) is tasked with resolving disputes with the project investor while considering the interests of all stakeholders in accordance with Vietnam's international commitments. The ministry is expected to report back to the prime minister on a proposal from Petrovietnam, aiming to bring the plant online by 2030.

Additionally, the government is focused on addressing issues related to O Mon 2 and O Mon 3, which are part of the Block B-O Mon gas-to-power chain. The MoIT must collaborate with other ministries and stakeholders to prevent delays in project agreements that could hinder progress. Bidding for the engineering, procurement, and construction contractor for O Mon 3 is also to be completed this month.
