Vietsovpetro Achieves First Oil from New RC12 Platform at Dragon Field
September 13, 2026

Vietnamese-Russian joint venture Vietsovpetro achieved "first oil" from its new RC12 wellhead platform at the Dragon (Rong) field in Block 09-1, Cuu Long basin, on September 11, 2026. The operator frames the startup as an important addition to output supporting 2026 and future production targets, offsetting natural decline at its older Cuu Long basin fields.
RC12 is a four-legged jacket platform with nine well slots, designed for a processing capacity of 1,500 m³/day of oil, 300,000 m³/day of associated gas, and 250,000 m³/day of gas-lift injection. It was sanctioned after appraisal wells R-79, R-81 and R-82 confirmed reserves. Design and procurement began in March 2025, fabrication started in December 2025, the jacket was installed offshore by April 2026, and the topside was completed and installed by August 22, 2026, with final commissioning wrapping up just a day before first oil.
Vietsovpetro says the platform was delivered 86 days ahead of its original council-approved schedule and 35 days ahead of a revised schedule.
